What Is MAC Address Generator?

The MAC address generator creates random 48-bit MAC addresses in four display formats — colon, dash, no separator and Cisco — and can constrain the unicast / multicast bit and the locally administered bit. It also validates a MAC address you provide, checking whether it is a legal 48-bit address and identifying its unicast / multicast and globally unique (OUI) / locally administered attributes.

Use Cases / Notes

Handy for network debugging, device simulation and building test cases. Randomly generated MACs are not bound to any real device; use IEEE OUI-registered prefixes if you need a real vendor prefix.

How to Use

1. Pick the output format and address type, and set the count
2. Click “Generate” for random MACs, or enter an address under “MAC to validate” and click “Validate”
