What is annualized return?

Turn a holding-period return into simple annualization and CAGR so investments with different durations can be compared. Annualization is a comparison scale, not a promise that you already earned a full-year return.

Formulas

  • HPR = (end − principal) ÷ principal
  • Simple annualized = HPR × 365 ÷ days
  • CAGR = (end ÷ principal)^(365 ÷ days) − 1

How to use

  1. Enter principal and end value (or profit)
  2. Enter holding period in days/months/years
  3. Compare HPR, simple annualization and CAGR
